Demerit system live?
There's an e-mail (Generated by WOMF ) doing the rounds highlighting that the demerit system is "now" live. As ussual there's a fair amount of confussion surrounding the national introduction of the system (Pretoria has been piloting the system since April 2006). Irrespective of the introduction date, the consequences of this system could be profound. The basis of the system being:
Every year drivers will be given 12 points. If you have 12 de-merits in a year, your licence is suspended. After receiving 3 suspensions from the traffic department, your licence WILL be cancelled and you will have to start from scratch again in applying for a licence.
