Opel releases details of Astra coupe
Opel/Vauxhall has released pictures of a concept for an Astra coupe that will be unveiled at the Paris auto show later this month.
Mark Adams, the brand's design chief, describes the concept as "bold,
pure and iconic" in its appearance.
Adams said the GTC concept shows the emotional side of Opel's new design language -- ‘sculptural artistry meets German precision.'
At 4460mm, the GTC Paris offers ample space for five people, Opel says.
The GTC powertrain is a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with direct injection, mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a stop-start system.
The three-door Astra likely will keep the GTC name when it goes on sale in late 2011.
The coupe will follow the Astra hatchback, which went on sale last year, and an Astra station wagon that debuts in Paris.
The Astra is Opel's second best-selling model after the Corsa subcompact, and so is key to the GM unit's aim to return to profitability in 2012.
