Will the Automotive industry in South Africa create more jobs

The local Automotive industry has always been proactive in the use of technology and resources to produce motor vehicles locally. The problem was (And still is) that the market potential is relatively small. Economic factors such as disposable income and cost of cars limits vehicle sales in South Africa.


The various Automotive programmes have attempted to address the issues of the times – Phases 1 to 6 addressing affordability through localisation in various guises. Who can forget the mass driven Phase 6 – every component drawing had the mass recorded and vehicles were weighed and a certain percentage had to be local.
